What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Baker’s Bar specializes in Happy Hour Cupcakes baked with Ontario craft beer, wine, and Canadian spirits. Our customers are primarily craft beer lovers with a sweet tooth.
Tell us about yourself
I grew up baking in my mother's kitchen. I continued that love for baking as a young adult. I would volunteer to bake for all sorts of fundraising events. I also believe food brings people together. I initially started my baking business as Jaxx Midnight Baking (as I would bake at very late hours of the night). When I received an order request to bake Chocolate Stout cupcakes for a bachelorette party, a light bulb turned on in my head.
There are so many amazing and unique Ontario craft beers; why stop with a stout? Shortly after, I rebranded to The Baker’s Bar. I enjoy seeing the excitement on people's faces when they hear the cupcake flavours and then take a bite.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say meaningful connections through collaborations. I have met amazing, supportive individuals and small business owners along the way that I am thrilled to collaborate with. Many are in the craft brewing industry.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying optimistic and encouraged during slower times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Love what you’re doing.
- Join networking groups. Connect with other business owners. Help others along the way.
- Understand that there will be ups and downs but remain persistent.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
The Baker’s Bar Happy Hour cupcakes appear at micro-breweries, corporate events, weddings, and pop-up markets for the mature crowd with mature palates. We also offer Beer & Baking - Cupcake Piping Workshops.
