Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Levine, Founder of Audacious Health & Wellness, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a certified life and health coach, author, mom, wife, and woman in her 50s living my audacious life. I help women in midlife go from feeling stuck to empowered so they can age healthfully, intentionally, joyfully, and audaciously - on their own terms.

Tell us about yourself

After years in film and video production (with a hiatus to be with my kids for a few years), I was on the cusp of 50 and realized that I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life. I had flirted with the idea of becoming a coach for years until flirting wasn't cutting it any longer, and I made the first move. Turns out that coaching is something I have been doing in one form or another for years, but I just never knew I was doing it. I studied Life Coaching at the Martha Beck Institute. I learned tools to help people understand and move beyond their fears, shift their perspectives, and, first and foremost, how truly pay attention to what they are thinking, feeling, and doing to get unstuck and move toward the lives they truly want to be living. (I know, right?!).

I added my passion for all things food-related by getting certified as a Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. In addition to studying over 100 different dietary theories, I learned strategies for helping clients create new habits and lifestyle changes. I'm also a certified Culinary Nutrition Expert, which means that I can help people eat in a way that best supports their bodies through a variety of things (menopause, anyone?). The amount of information out there can be overwhelming, but wading through it all is one of the things that light me up.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I had been blogging for years - ever since I started my business - and in 2019, I was contacted by a company called Indelible Imprints about turning my blog into a book. "Midlife No Crisis: An Audacious Guide to 50 and Beyond" came out in 2021, and that has by far been one of my biggest accomplishments.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, it's being a "solopreneur." It can be very lonely!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your message and your audience.
  2. Find community - especially if you are working on your own. Co-working spaces help, as do networking groups for other women business owners.
  3. Ask for help when you need it!
