Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Kurpanek, founder of That Minimal Life, LLC., located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an Eco-Living Coach! Which is a fancy way of saying I'm a Life Coach — who only focuses on sustainable living. If you want a lifestyle that cares for the Earth, cares for you and your family, and is typically associated with huge money savings, positive mental and physical health impacts, a sense of community, and connection to the Earth — I'm the coach for you.

I can help you reduce your household waste (usually cutting it in half, at the least!) and take steps that will help you reduce your carbon footprint, all while being mindful of your budget and your personal needs.

Tell us about yourself

My favorite quote is: "Don't do nothing because you can't do everything. Do something, anything." - Colleen Patrick Goudreau.

I have struggled throughout my life with the all-or-nothing mindset and know very well what it feels like to not do anything at all if I don't feel capable of doing something perfectly.

My coaching was born from my love of education, and after spending five years teaching in a classroom, I knew it was time for a change. While teaching, I learned alongside my 1st graders about composting and other eco-minded practices, as we also studied natural life cycles and ecosystems. My passion for the environment grew, and the more I learned about incredible steps I could personally take to better care for the Earth, the more inspired I felt to pass on this knowledge to others!

We, alone, can't do everything our Earth needs to reverse the effects of climate change and create a better future for our planet, but we all can do something!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every time I coach someone and help them fulfill their goals, and I see how this impacts them personally and fills them with joy, my whole day is made! Even better is when I hear from them later on about how they've shared what they're learning with family/friends, and I know this impact has made ripple effects that will continue on... It's the best!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Personally, my biggest struggle as a business owner is the marketing aspect. I'm learning a lot about balancing meeting clients' needs and making a living for myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start somewhere! Don't be afraid to ask for help. Chances are, you know somebody who can help you with at least one aspect of what you'd like to do. And look online — I've learned so much through databases like Skillshare!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you're interested in coaching with me, feel free to browse my website (I have a podcast and a blog there, too) or send me a message — I'd love to hear from you!
