Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in financial services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jen Thaker, Founder of Thaker Financial, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help my clients live their best financial lives. By taking the time to understand who you are and what your hopes and dreams for the future may be, I am able to help you create a financial plan that is unique to you, your family, and/or your business. I’m not your average advisor. I spent many years in the medical world and have a deeper understanding of the relationship between health and wealth. This allows me to help you protect your greatest asset, your ability to earn income, aka your health, with insurance and also optimize your savings/investments in planning for the future.

I strongly believe that health is wealth. Health is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic. And money is energy. A true financial security plan is built on a foundation of protection in the present while investing in your future. My clients are entrepreneurs and business owners. You’re working hard, serving your purpose with passion. But you can’t do everything alone. We all need a team behind us so that we can focus on what we do best. I’m here to support you with financial advice and guidance. My passion and purpose are helping others to live their best (financial) lives.

Tell us about yourself

With health challenges from an early age, I became aware quite young that money can make a difference when you’re sick. Over the years, especially through my 20s and 30s, the financial stability that I had created for myself allowed me to fight for what mattered most—my health. My health challenges led me to create a plan for financial stability and future financial freedom early on. Unfortunately, this also led to working to the detriment of my health. The wisdom to understand that more than just wealth is important in sustaining health took a few decades. Not having to worry about money lets you focus on what matters most to you when life throws you an unexpected challenge. Whether that challenge is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, or energetic (financial). I strongly believe that health is wealth and the key to my current health and wealth is a balance of financial security, time in nature, work I’m passionate about, being in service to others, and consciously attuning to health on multiple levels. We are mind, body, and soul. And money is an energy that flows through it all.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting Thaker Financial itself has been one of my greatest accomplishments in life. I left the safety and security of a high-paying senior role in the corporate world. I took the leap and trusted that it was time to help others navigate their financial well-being.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The unknown. When you first start out, there’s a lot of trusts involved. Trust In yourself, your message, and what you have to offer your clients. And faith that when you are true to your passion and purpose to serve others, everything will work out. COVID definitely tested my trust and faith, and I’m so grateful I stayed on my path, and Thaker Financial has the honour to help business owners and entrepreneurs live their best financial lives every day!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t try to do it alone: You started your business with a passion/purpose. Surround yourself with experts you trust to support you. Your accountant, lawyer, financial advisor, and so many more people would love to help.
  2. Community: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who understand you, your goals, and your business.
  3. Balance: Health is Wealth! Be sure to have balance so that you don’t burn out and have to suffer to get well and back to building a life you love.
And remember that if you earn a certain amount and you spend a lot more than that, there are generally only two ways to fix it. Earn more. Or spend less.
