What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer online Yoga and Meditation with a unique flare of connecting Ayurveda and Mindful Eating. I also run weekend-long retreats on the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay, Ontario. Our clientele is anyone with a desire to learn and grow in their mindfulness practices. Anyone with a desire to strengthen their mind, body, and heart and to connect with their natural born desires.

Tell us about yourself

I stumbled upon yoga 20 years ago after a battle with anxiety. When I saw how a regular yoga practice could relieve the tension in my body and mind, I knew I had to share this with others. I took the yoga teacher training and learned all the basics of poses and classes and aligning a mindful intention to our body practice. As I continued to study yoga, I came across Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga that allows us to discover a true balance of the self.

Ayurveda has led me to a life of wholeness in both mind and body, but especially in food and the way we eat. I meet more and more each day who benefit from mindful eating practices and how to connect the relationship between what we eat, what we digest, and how it makes us feel.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I run retreats annually where I get to fulfill my passion for teaching yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda. For the past two years, we have sold out and had to add additional dates.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur is something I have always wanted to do. The struggle is time management. As an entrepreneur, I want to say yes to every opportunity that comes my way, but that sometimes leaves me burning the candle at both ends.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Look to fill each day with income-producing activities as well as back office duties.
  2. Say yes to what lights your heart and grows you closer to your mission and vision, and don't be afraid to go to what might take you away.
  3. Know your why. And keep it in front of you when things get tough.
