What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an online counseling facility. All the counselors are licensed professional counselors for the state of Texas. We service individual adults 18 years and older. We take many insurances for the sessions along with cash payors. We also work with couples counseling and counseling intensives.

Tell us about yourself

I am a native Texan. Becoming a counselor was a long journey. This is my second career. I was in sales, and I was given angry and upset customers. I was happy to help. I knew how to work with them. After some contemplation, I decided mental health counseling is what I want to do. What motivates me the most about my business is that I get to see clients work hard and make changes in their life for the better.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel my biggest accomplishment as a mental health practitioner is that I was able to hire more counselors.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I feel the hardest thing as a business owner is getting credentialed with insurance panels. It is monotonous, duplicitous, and time-consuming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Running a business is not for the weary. The first few years a difficult when it comes to revenue. I would be prepared financially when starting a business. Many times, the revenue is inconsistent. Prioritize your time for work and personal life. Make sure you are taking care of yourself during stressful times.
