Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tevis Haynie, Founder of Sivet Empowerment Coaching & Consulting, located in Antioch, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sivet Empowerment Coaches, Consults, and trains all people but specializes in Early childhood Education through leadership and organizational development. Sivet provides knowledge around early childhood education, and this is done through motivational speaking, professional performance, life coaching, consulting, and training. Sivet believes that helping children have strong social and emotional confidence is the tool that will lead them to be effective students and effective adults. We know and understand the impact that early education has on children's lives and the importance of early intervention for children who need it. Equipping educators and guardians with the tools for them to excel is what will help make our educational institutes more successful and our students more brilliant.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I am Tevis Haynie. I love talking to people most of the time…(LOL). I do not like talking about myself, but I learned that I must introduce myself. And in introducing myself, it means I must talk about myself. So, I can tell you I was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and raised in Bowling Green, Ky. I can also tell you that I was raised with two brothers and am the middle child (yes, I have the syndrome). I can say my parents are still married after 46 years. I have three nephews, a niece, and a beautiful daughter who is the light of my life and my headache (she is a teenager). I can also say I was one of a few who went to an all-white elementary school and was excited to go to middle school, where I would be around more people who looked like me. Then I was picked on and bullied for about three years. I had a great high school experience and college experience, and oh, I have 3 degrees.

I can tell you so much more… So here it goes—my "why" is my daughter and the love I have for helping others. I want to continue to be a vessel to those who desire to grow personally and professionally. I love helping people to be great, fall in love with themselves, and stay in love with their careers. I believe in having a growth mindset and forward moving always. To me, this is what is important for our children and our educators. Providing them with tools that will help empower them as they grow through the process of educating and being educated. Finally, Open hearts, opens minds, opens doors.

I do professional business and life coaching and train and consult ECE. After graduating with my second master's during the peak of COVID, I was sitting home thinking about all my years of experience and education. I decided that I could be a coach and consult; my strengths are ECE, leadership development, and organizational development. Why not create something that will help support my family and others?

My higher power provides me with all the confidence, tools, and faith to achieve. My daughter drives me to continue to work hard and press forward; knowing that America's youth is our future and how our education system could be so much better are all things that motivate me to continue to have a growth mindset.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

So far, it is getting started. Getting my LLC and learning as I go.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Marketing and advertising.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You will continuously grow and evolve. Things like your mission or vision and maybe your goal will change. It only changes because you're maturing and learning more about the business. The business matures as you mature with your knowledge. Be okay with this. Always have a growth mindset.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for help, support, or advice. If you don't ask for help, you will remain stuck. If you don't ask hard questions, then you don't learn what you need to do to get better. Forward moving always.
  3. You have to put money in to get money in return. Step out on Faith!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I did not ever dream of being an entrepreneur. I wanted to be a Pediatric Oncologist. I knew it would be challenging to start my own business because of the financial piece which goes with marketing and advertising. Always put yourself in a room and/or space to grow and learn more from others. If you're the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. If they don't offer you a seat at the table, create your own table.
