What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tell us about yourself

The story began when I watched my wedding video for the first time, and in it, my mom made a speech to the groom, and she said, "Rob, you're so talented. You can do whatever you want in this world. Just make sure you're always passionate about what you do, and you enjoy your work every single day." I had just completed a finance MBA, and at that point, I knew what other business to do than to follow my dreams and my passion, which was helping people by managing their money. When I started my business, I knew I'd be successful if I just followed the values and principles that my parents and grandparents had taught me about business. That is honesty, transparency, and hard work. We started having success. The team was growing. I added some key members, operations, administrative support, and client management. We added an estate planner and a financial planner.

I've wanted to be the best at whatever I do. Whenever I do something, I have to be the best at it. And I brought that same approach to this business. I became a portfolio manager with the sole purpose of being the best portfolio manager in this entire country. I've always known that I've done right by clients in managing their money. But to have the Wealth Professional Institute give us the award, of the best portfolio manager of the year, really validates all the hard work we do on a daily basis for our clients. Every day, I wake up following my passion, following my dreams, and that is building a business that offers its clients, world-class, wealth advice, service, and investment solutions.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been building a successful business from scratch based on ethical and moral principles. I take great pride in the fact that we always put our clients' needs first and provide them with unbiased and transparent advice. One of the keys to our success has been surrounding ourselves with highly competent people who share our values and are committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients. We have a team of experts with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, which allows us to provide comprehensive and customized solutions to meet our client's unique needs.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is learning to let go and trust your employees. It's natural to want to have your hand in every aspect of your business, but as your company grows, it becomes impossible to handle everything on your own. Learning to delegate tasks and responsibilities to your team, and trusting that they will handle them effectively, can be a difficult transition for many business owners. However, it's an essential step in building a strong and sustainable business that can continue to grow and thrive, even when you're not directly involved in every decision. It's incredibly rewarding to see our clients achieve their financial goals and to know that we played a part in helping them get there.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a strong brand: A strong brand can help you build trust and loyalty with your customers. Develop a clear brand identity, be consistent in your messaging and visual elements, and invest in marketing efforts that promote your brand's values and benefits.
  2. Stay informed about your industry: To stay ahead of the competition, you need to stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and market changes in your industry. Attend conferences, read industry publications, and network with other business owners to stay informed.
  3. Stay laser-focused on your customers: Building a successful business requires meeting the needs and expectations of your customers. Invest time and effort in understanding their wants and needs, and always strive to exceed their expectations.
