Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terri Hedrick, Founder of Homeschool in Florida and Beyond, located in Umatilla, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a homeschool consultant/coach and owner/administrator of a private school for homeschoolers. My clients are those who are homeschooling now or who want to take the leap into the wonderful world of homeschooling.

Tell us about yourself

I am a long-time educator; it's in my genetics. :) Once I had my daughters, I knew that I didn't want to send them to another teacher when they were young, so I kept them at home. One year led to another, and now I have one in college (full tuition paid for from both academic and talent scholarships) and one who published her first book at age 16 and is now studying with The Author Conservatory this year during her senior year.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Maintaining that precious work/life balance while running a successful business and homeschooling my girls.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's marketing. I like to be on the front lines working with families. I don't like to spend my time promoting myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Grow your business out of your talents AND your passions.
  2. Keep at it! Success doesn't usually happen overnight.
  3. Don't become a workaholic, no matter HOW much you love your work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You can do this!
