Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Alina Soto, Founder of Terra Dusa, PLLC., located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Terra Dusa is a Holistic Mental Health Practice that is dedicated to quality mental health services, including education. My approach, Focal Neurocognitive & Physioemotional Integration®, is the foundation for the wide breadth of services and courses offered at Terra Dusa. The original specialty that led to FNPI's design was Trauma & Traumatic Stress, which means the majority of my patients were those with Trauma histories. I realized that there were many commonalities when it came to how a person's nervous system responded to and worked through a difficult event, regardless of whether or not it created Traumatic Stress; this led to the birth of FNPI and my online course, Unraveling Resistance: Break the Trauma Loop. This new education branch became the Terra Dusa Academy for Integrative Growth. An online space dedicated to quality mental health education for personal transformation and growth. I now hope to serve a broader population with online self-therapy courses. Interested persons can learn more about my courses here: www.TerraDusaAcademy.com

Tell us about yourself

In 2019 I was six months pregnant, had little to no income, and was unable to pay for housing. After being rejected from a residency position because of my obvious pregnancy, I decided that I would NEVER again participate in systems or businesses that perpetuated this type of discrimination. So, I launched my own practice from the kitchen counter of a generous friend who let me stay with her for a year while I got on my feet. That gift allowed me to create a thriving practice, and I was able to purchase my first home by the end of that year. I am very grateful; she saved my life and my daughter's.

Designing a completely new system and approach is my passion and gives me drive. My main ambition is to drastically change the landscape of healthcare into something more efficient and effective at the RESOLUTION of symptoms. It's time for an overhaul, and I intend to be a mover and shaker in this process.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Choosing myself over what I "should" be. This simple step created a powerful ripple that I can see in myself, my children, my practice, my business, and my patients. I chose to change, and I can see how it inspires others around me to do the same.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing work and family. I think I am figuring it out a little more each day, but sometimes it's hard figuring out which baby needs the most attention, the human ones or Terra Dusa, and in what order.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. JUST DO IT.
  2. Follow your passion; you CAN create incredible joy from your work.
  3. Learn the difference between busy work and efficient work.
