Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Telma Sanchez, Certified High-Performance Life & Accountability Coach, based in Tempe, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Life and Accountability coach. My business helps busy working professionals reach their next level of performance, not the performance that is done to feel worthy of love, but the performance that comes out of loving yourself. My clients are high performers that seek consistent growth. By working with me, they show up better for themselves, their families, and their work with zero guilt.

Tell us about yourself

I discovered life coaching through my own growth journey, and I loved everything about it. I started studying more as I continued to feel the benefits of working with a coach. Then I began to share with my friends and family and watched them reach their own results. Seeing that really motivated me to share with others, and that is how I decided to start the business. We all have a reason to become better. My reason, my motivation starts with my kids. Being a mom really pushed me to start showing up for myself and becoming a better version of myself because they were watching. I want to show them that it is ok to go after your dreams. It is ok to seek consistent growth. It is ok to want to reach new levels. I know that this work makes a difference in all areas of your life, and with more people that seek self-help and improvement and that are willing to do the work, the impact in our communities will be felt.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to see my clients win! When they reached that level, they were seeking zero guilt. Watching them celebrate their self-worth and progress, for me, is the best accomplishment for my clients and my business. Another big accomplishment I recently achieved was becoming a best-selling author in September 2022 when I published my book, Own Your Dance.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Owning your own business comes with one title, entrepreneur, but it entails lots of new hats and positions required to account for the business. For example, YOU become marketing, technology, HR, sales, CEO, Director, etc. All things start with you until you can grow or outsource the help you need. The learning curve is huge, especially for those like me that came from a 9-5 corporate job where we had all of the help we needed with a quick phone call or email, and our job entailed one position only. The learning curve, the long nights, and the failures that come with becoming your own boss are not always easy, but they are so worth it!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide WHY this business is important and WHY you are the person to do it. This will get you to show up for it every day.
  2. Decide what the 'needle moving actions' are that you must start doing consistently to make it happen and DO them consistently!
  3. Find a support system; one of my first mentors said, "You are not meant to do business or life alone," and I totally agree. You want to find a group of people that understands what you are going through and that can help you get out of your head and into action!
