Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tekla Barrett, Founder of The IVF Therapist, located in Adirondack Mountains, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a psychotherapist supporting individuals and couples: trying to conceive, fertility issues, IVF, surrogacy/GC, egg/sperm/embryo donations, grief, miscarriage, and anxiety. I offer remote services in NY state.

Tell us about yourself

As a psychotherapist, it is important to have a niche. After starting my IVF (in vitro fertilization) journey, I realized there were not many specialists in this area that have also experienced IVF and loss. I am motivated to help others, like myself, through their IVF journey. And also if they have the terrible experience of miscarriage or loss. Just to name a few.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping women and couples in their journey without dealing with the bureaucracy of working for a large corporation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Ignorance- you don't know what you don't know. Having to learn everything as you go along.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be overprepared.
  2. Ask experienced people in your field for advice.
  3. Network.

Where can people find you and your business?
