What's your business, and who are your customers?
We work with educators to help them teach better. We do this through customized, personalized, strategically planned professional development and consulting services for school districts.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a 4-time college dropout who started this business with a buddy I met in the music industry. He was a teacher. I've always been an entrepreneur. He had created a framework for teaching differently in his classroom and was seeing incredible results. He came to me to help him share it, and we've been doing that for the past 8 years, impacting hundreds of thousands of teachers and millions of students across the U.S. Helping educators realize the impact they can have, and helping them to find balance and harmony in their life, gets me excited every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think my biggest accomplishment is building something that I am proud of, something that helps people, and it just happens to also be profitable.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Guilt. You feel guilty if you're not giving your loved ones enough of you because you want to work on your business all the time. Then you feel guilty when you take time for yourself because there is always work to be done. It is one of the hardest things to try and find the right harmony to be happy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient - this is going to take longer than you want it to.
- Find a support system - Whether you build a team or not, find people that you can turn to when you get beat down, burnt out, and start doubting yourself.
- Have a good understanding of your numbers. Know where your revenue comes from, where you spend your money, and when you run out of cash.
