Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Yeung, co-owner of Mouvement Plus (MVT+), located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a multidisciplinary therapy clinic that utilizes biomechanics for movement recovery and optimization. We offer an array of manual therapy sessions and movement training to anyone who wishes to move better (hence our name!).

Tell us about yourself

I am one of the co-owners of MVT+ and have been a sports massage therapist/kinesiologist since I graduated from university. As a lifelong dancer, mover and athlete, I was naturally curious about the human body and its movement.

I enjoy the work that I do because not only do I get to help people relieve pain and make an immediate difference in someone else's life, but I also get to discover the amazing adaptability and recovery potential our bodies have. Through my work, I've developed a much deeper appreciation for all the things our bodies do for us every single day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening our clinic! We're expanding from sharing one office room to having a proper space with four treatment rooms and a mini gym; it's a big step forward for us.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management. It is easy to get sucked into always working, especially on the business side of our practice, as there is always something that needs to be done. I am currently working on being more disciplined in sticking to the schedule I've set to make sure I take breaks and have hands-off time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Good business partners are hard to find, but if you find one (or more) that you work well with, it helps with the stress as tasks are delegated.
  2. Networking and having contacts is very helpful when starting a business.
  3. Don't be afraid to ask for help! There are many resources and organizations out there that offer services, for free or at a very low cost, to help guide you through the process of starting a business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Our bodies are made to move! Use it, or you'll lose it.
