Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Thomas, founder of Thomas Endurance Coaching, located in Livingston, MT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

TEC is an online coaching platform that gives athletes of all abilities access to world-class coaching relationships no matter their location. We work to impact people's lives through movement by giving coaches the ability to build the coaching business of their dreams. TEC exists to put our tools and resources to work in order to inspire coaches to build impactful relationships with their clients as well as create the business and life they most desire.

Tell us about yourself

As a lifelong athlete myself, I've long seen the value in what committing to a dedicated movement practice can do for you. As a young entrepreneur, I focused on other industries that weren't directly linked to health and fitness. However, I began to think more seriously about how to apply what I'd learned at other start-ups to the endurance coaching space and how I might be able to combine my love for building businesses and supporting coaches and athletes. With this in mind, TEC was born.

My drive is to continue to be a part of TEC's growth so that we can impact the coaching industry and be a part of changing how athletes think about working with a coach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is expanding the business and shifting to become a Coach Accelerator that provides other coaches the opportunity to build successful and impact-driven coaching businesses. This is a challenging industry, and it's one that requires support in order to stand out and own your value. I'm proud that TEC helps coaches do that every day.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making long-term decisions that are in support and alignment with the overall mission and vision of the company can be challenging. It can be hard to see the forest through the trees some days, and knowing how what you do today will impact your business five years from now can be tough. It's easy to doubt yourself if you don't surround yourself with the support you need. Luckily, my team is amazing, and I have support all around me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Identify your personal Mission, Vision, and Core Values. You have to build a business that's in alignment with who you are and who you want to be.
  2. Develop your business Mission, Vision, and Core Values. These should mirror your personal ones and give you your north star as you build the foundational aspects of your business. These are the cornerstones.
  3. Put a support network in place around you. Building a business can be a lonely endeavor, but it doesn't have to be.
