Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor McAllister, NTP, Holistic Nutritionist, based in McKinney, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Nutritionist specializing in helping clients (through coaching and nutritional assessments) get to the root cause of their problems and help them heal holistically so they can feel and look their best.
Tell us about yourself
My business started when I was able to transform my own health and lose over 60 pounds myself. I shared my journey through social media, educating my community and documenting my progress. I then got the credentials needed to expand my passion/business and provide additional services outside of just coaching so I could help others on a higher level. My success led me to work with brands and photographers through social media, which eventually got me scouted by a modeling agency. I've now been in the industry for about a year now and have been sharing my experience with making progress in that department as well on social media.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Making connections and helping people. Of course, I'm proud of the empire essentially I've built for myself so far, but what matters most to me is helping people (especially women) to never feel as bad as I once did at my lowest and unhealthiest just a few years ago. If I can just impact a handful of lives and show them that there is a way out and that they CAN do this, then that's worth it all to me right there.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's constant. And often times than not, when you're that passionate about something to go off and make something out of it...others notice, and you're presented with all of these other opportunities (which is a huge blessing), but it can be hard to do it all or know when to protect your peace and say no to things.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find what you LOVE. Not what you THINK will bring you the most success. If you're truly passionate about it, you'll make it work regardless.
- Be patient. With yourself especially, don't compare your success and your timeline to others.
- Networking is severely underrated. Sometimes you can't put a price tag on people you meet or "free work" that gets your foot in the door. In the beginning, it's all about who you know and getting the right, supportive people in your corner.
