Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Beech, Vice President of Kaizen, located in Guelph, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My core business has evolved from owning gyms to restaurants, online product businesses, and real estate development. Most of my income is made in developing land and other real estate projects, but I still personally train and coach clients online as a passion and as a way to give back what I have learned.

Tell us about yourself

I first started in the fitness industry in 1999 and quickly found success winning personal trainer of the year 2000 out of over 10,000 personal trainers. After winning personal training manager of the year 2003, I decided I needed to branch off and work for myself. Since then, I have had four personal training studios and parlayed that success into a real estate development company.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to continuously set and achieve goals, always looking to reinvent myself and set the bar higher and higher.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Without a doubt, the hardest thing is to stay positive and hopeful. To stay optimistic and believe in what you are doing, and never quit. I wanted to quit almost every day for the first ten years, never feeling I was on the right path or good enough. I've finally reached a point where my belief is unwavering, and I can stay optimistic and confident no matter what the day brings, but that comes with a ton of inner work.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

You have to be willing to lose everything and still continue with your dreams. Have a backup plan involving doing any work possible if you have to make more money to get by but never ever stop. If you don't quit, you'll never lose. Always give it one more day. Invest in yourself and hang with people that inspire the future ideal best version of yourself, and learn to set goals that are scary and far above where you are now. A goal that is so big it truly scares and excites you to get out of bed every day.
