Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tammy Rowland, founder of Tammy Rowland Coaching, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help executives and business owners build their authority using proven methodologies. The areas I most commonly work in are mental fitness and mastery, communication mastery, and living a balanced life in flow. For those most challenged, I help them get a life or participate in the one they've got.

They may sound simple, but each affects the others that are individually important in leadership. If you can't master your thoughts, your communication may come across as harsh, like a suggestion, or simply misunderstood.

As a leader in this fast-moving world, it's hard not to get caught up in the melee of activity and lose all track of time and space. Balance is such a moving target that it's easy not to catch up with it. I believe that once you've sorted this out, you are a happier being for yourself, your organization, and a member of the community and your family.

Tell us about yourself

I am certified as a Professional Certified Coach through an international governing body, and I have continued to educate in areas around neuroscience and leadership. Fascinating stuff! I have tied the best parts of what I learned with the best parts of me to support my clients being me!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishments are my clients. Watching their growth and helping them both evolve as well as laugh at themselves when things get rough. It's such fun and rewarding. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Juggling... and I'm not working in a circus. 😆 There are so many things I love doing, including writing, so prioritizing each task, not forgetting the value of each, or waiting until they are all important and urgent. I believe in time blocking to stay on task with no interruptions. Then, I am free and ready to give my full attention to my executive clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Find something you really love doing and are likely already doing for free, then monetize it. Entrepreneurship is not for those who fail to plan, which takes time and focus. If you are just trying to make ends meet, get a good job. You want to get up and do whatever it takes to get to do what you love every day you work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Life and work can be a lot for many leaders, and doing it alone can be challenging. I wonder how much better it would be if you had a trusted confidante and partner to bounce ideas off of as well as getting another perspective from someone outside your organization.
