Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tami Jaffe, a business success coach and consultant, speaker, and author, based in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business success coach who helps those wanting to go from employees to entrepreneurs to start, grow and scale their businesses to not only replace their income but exceed it.

Tell us about yourself

After spending 20 years in corporate leadership, I realized I wanted something more and wanted to be able to help more people. I started off as a leadership and career transition coach, and as more people started asking me, "how did you make the transition from corporate to owning your own business?" I realized that there isn't a lot of direction out there for people getting started to know what to do and when. My mission is to help more startups be successful faster and see results in their businesses so that they can do what they love. The results my clients get and the excitement they have when they get a big breakthrough are what motivate me and keep me going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are not about me but the results my clients get. Seeing them going from getting their first clients and the excitement they have to 10x their businesses as they grow and learn how to be the CEO are some of my favorite things to celebrate.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things in being a business owner is staying focused and not getting distracted by all the different tactics and strategies out there. Most of them aren't right for startups, and so many people waste a lot of time and money before they figure that out. When you have the right strategy for where you are in your business, it makes all the difference.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't get distracted by all the shiny objects. They are just distractions. Instead, get a strategy that works for you and your business and stay focused on that until you've mastered it.
  2. Get clear on your business idea. It all starts with clarity and getting your questions answered, so it is crystal clear to you and to your prospects.
  3. Learn from those that have done it before. This will save you so much time and money in the long run!
