Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skin care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Clark, founder of Province Apothecary, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Province Apothecary utilizes nature’s incredible offerings to create fresh remedies for everyone’s everyday ritual. Our products are made for healing. Our customers are interested in taking care of themselves and mother nature.

Tell us about yourself

I founded PA in 2012 with the mission of creating effective skincare, made from organic, ethically sourced, high-quality plant ingredients that are good for you and the planet + work for all skin types. At the heart of our company is my desire to help people with their skincare challenges by empowering them to take care of their skin holistically with natural products.

The sustainability of our ingredients and packaging has been a core focus for us as a certified green company. Giving back has always been an important part of our mission. This year, we have partnered with Bee city to protect our pollinators and Seed Change to support farmers around the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping all of our customers every day. Our products have healed my skin and changed my life for the better (goodbye eczema). I love speaking with our customers about all the amazing results they have seen in their skin and themselves because they use our products. Maybe a little bit cheesy, but it's the reason I work so hard.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding a work-life balance and not letting the stress of the business take over your life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a supportive network of friends, family, and other business owners that you can check in with when you're having a hard day or something goes wrong.
  2. Realize what you can do and what you need help with. HIre help.
  3. Really think about how your product will stand out in the market and run with that.
