Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tami Vanclef, Owner of Taddo's Tallow, located in Arroyo Grande, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Taddo's Tallow is an all-natural, clean, and nontoxic moisturizing skincare line. Using five ingredients or less, as well as offering zinc for an all-natural SPF sun protection because it is so important. Because the ingredients I use in my products are similar to our skin's natural properties. So they are nourishing, moisturizing and healing. I have many customers. My entire product line is desirable for women aged '30-the '40s. Younger men, women, and kids enjoy my lip balms. Twenty-somethings, same-sex relationships, and couples of all ages enjoy my massage candles. Also, crafters, potters, jewelry makers, and more really like my solid lotion bars and solid lotion sticks for their hands.

Tell us about yourself

I had really bad eczema and then got diagnosed with skin cancer. I am a daily moisturizer, so with my new skin ailments, I knew I needed to make a major change. I did a lot of research and a lot of recipes before I came up with Taddo's Tallow. I was able to solve my eczema problems as well as make a healthy change for an all-natural, limited ingredient skincare routine. I wake up every morning for my family and my customers' family. I personally know how important healthy skin and healthy choices are. My major motivation is to get my healing skin care out there so others can experience a healthy skincare routine as well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to hear my customers express how much of a difference my products have made for their skin and how it has helped with their skin issues or just that they really like my products. I also appreciate the fact that my customers reorder and also gift my lotions and candles to friends and family. It's great motivation for me to keep doing what I'm doing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that there are only 24 hours in a day! I have never been so busy in my life, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Not only has my skin evolved to be as healthy as it is today, but my goals and frame of mind have evolved as well. I love doing what I'm doing, and I wouldn't change it for anything, even though I had never worked harder in my life before I started my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top three tips for anyone that is thinking of starting, running, or growing a business are:

  1. Just keep at it! If it's your passion and you believe in what you do, just keep going. Your love and motivation show through in what you truly believe in, and others can see that.
  2. Stay focused. If you have a goal or desire that you want to achieve, just keep focused on your end goal, and you'll have great success and make your achievements. You can totally do it!
  3. Self-care is important. You need to take time for yourself. Wither it means getting your nails done, getting a massage, going for a walk, having wine with your friends, or having a date night with your Bo. Take that time; it's almost like hitting that refresh button. It makes such a difference.
