What's your business, and who are your customers?

Synova Associates LLC is a nurse leader education company. Synova's leadership forums and meetings provide NICU and perinatal nurse leaders with innovative information and solutions to help them achieve their goals and find more joy in their work. Synova's programming helps nurse leaders understand the importance of culture, leadership, and team development, along with broadening their professional networks. Synova has two co-owners, wonderful staff who support all operations of the company, a board of executives, advisors, and a community of long-time supporters and sponsors.

Tell us about yourself

Synova led a small business with 90% of all revenue tied to in-person events for Nurse leaders through COVID. We strategized how to use our skills as counselors to create support networks and education for nurse leaders during the pandemic to ensure they could lead their teams and care for their patients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

That you never know when a client or sponsor could pull out. Losing a big client when you are still building a stronger, more diverse portfolio is what I lose sleep over.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ensure you have more than one revenue stream to support your growth.
  2. Have a business partner who has a different skill set than you.
  3. Ensure you give yourself grace and room to make mistakes.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Ensuring that you have time off built into your yearlong calendar is a lifesaver.
