Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Sanchez, Founder of Swim Against the Current, located in Alamo, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help leaders navigate career growth with intent and purpose to optimize happiness, impact, and earning potential. When working with organizations, I help them increase their impact on the world by raising the vibration of their leaders and workspaces. My customers are corporate leaders and growing companies who want to invest in their people.

Tell us about yourself

I spent the first 13 years in healthcare sales and marketing and got my MBA. Shortly after I announced I was pregnant, I was let go from my job. Then, my daughter was born, and my grandfather died three weeks later. These events shook my foundation and prompted me to start asking some critical questions:

What is my purpose? What are my values, and how do I want to live my life? Through this exploration, I discovered coaching. Today, along with my family, helping intelligent, mission-driven leaders find their stride fills my cup and motivates me daily. I feel I am living a life that honors my purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Financially, I've doubled my income consistently every year for five years. But more importantly, I've helped over 300 business leaders improve their lives. My client testimonials are my greatest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The solitude- I am marketing, strategy, accounting, operations, and sales with little outside counsel to bounce ideas off. Also, finding the delicate balance between planting and watering the seeds of my business and enjoying the life I've built.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself- don't lose hope amid the entrepreneurship roller coaster.
  2. Remember why you started in the first place- always stay connected to your purpose.
  3. Take care of your needs. Your business has a better chance of thriving if you do.
