Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Robyn Buzzee, the founder of Poppy Flower Works, a sustainable florist in Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

At Poppy Flower Works, we prioritize locally grown and sustainable floristry. We grow the majority or our flowers and what we can't grow, we source locally. We love catering to brides, who love, are looking to get married in the Canadian Rockies and have a keen eye for sustainability.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

I started as a grocery store florist in my early twenties and quickly realized the floral industries shortcomings in regards to sustainability. I love coming up with new solutions and working one on one with people to create custom arrangements.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

Starting my business! This has been a huge learning curve for me, and it is so exciting! It is so motivating to see how my community has received my business and the concepts that it supports.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

Putting myself out there! It takes confidence to meet new people and feel vulnerable in regards to your business practices. I am learning as I go in regards to running my own business, and every mistake is a lesson.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

Just start! Once you commit and get the ball rolling its very surprising to see how quickly things come to fruition.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I would like to challenge my community to consider where your flowers are coming from, and support local when possible :)
