What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a dance studio offering recital, session, and competition team classes. Classes are offered for ages 2 - adults. We have classes for beginner to advance dancers in tap, ballet, jazz/contemporary, hip hop, gymnastics, musical theatre, baton, and clogging.
Tell us about yourself
I have always had a passion for dance. I started classes when I was seven years old. I have been dancing for over 50 years and teaching for 43 years. I love sharing my passion with the students.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Owning and operating my own dance studio for the past 37 years and having two daughters who love it enough to take it over when I'm ready to retire.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Trying to find a balance between work and family. I'm very blessed to have an understanding and supportive husband, along with great kids. I have four children.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Know your market and pricing. I have always tried to make it affordable for families, especially those with multiple children. You need to have "tough skin." And you need to approach any decision with the mindset that you can't please everyone, but you can please most of the people most of the time.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I love what I do, and for someone to be able to build a business doing what you love is rare, and I feel very fortunate.
