Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Blankenship, Founder of Supported Season, LLC., located in USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Supported Season is an affordable monthly membership that educates and supports pregnant people. It's more than a birth course. More than a support group. I take a holistic approach to prepare new parents.

My customers are essentially the "in-betweeners." The people may feel like they fit in with the different birthing cultures but need to learn more to go at it alone. They can learn science and evidence-based information without feeling in school. It's easy yet thorough.

Tell us about yourself

I had terrible birthing experiences. When I was looking to reenter the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom for many years, I felt the pull to help others have a better experience. The more I learned about the current birthing practices and research in America, the more I pushed to make "Supported Season" a reality.

I'm motivated daily to support pregnant people because it's a matter of life and death. We need to be educated about the care we receive because sometimes it is impressive, but more often, it's not. I need to change all that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is starting from scratch, not knowing what I was doing, never having any formal business or web development education, and creating a kickass educational website that is complicated but functional, easy to navigate, and beautiful. Whenever I get asked who made my website, I beam with pride. It hasn't been an easy road, but I can look back and see my growth by leaps and bounds and feel proud of myself.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

What's NOT hard? It's all more challenging than I expected because it's not what I've ever known, but when you celebrate every single win, even though it's small, it makes it all worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do market research. It's so worth it!
  2. Ask for help, but also know who you are, what you want, and what you're willing to do to get there.
  3. It takes time. More time than you thought in the day-to-day operations, and everyone needs to wait for your products and services. You have to make them want it.
