What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm the founder of Independent Podcast Network. We help podcasts of all shapes and sizes. If you're just getting started, we have free resources to help you launch and grow your show. If you already have an audience, we'll help you make money with your podcast so you can continue creating amazing content.
Tell us about yourself
My degree is in broadcast journalism. I worked as a news anchor and reporter at various stations all over the country. I started podcasting shortly after getting married. It was a game-changer for me. It gave me ultimate creative control over my work and a super flexible schedule that proved to be really important as we started our family. I want other people to have that opportunity. I'm motivated by doing what I love and empowering others to do the same. We should all be the change we want to see in the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to provide financially for my family while having the flexibility to make them my #1 priority. I set my own schedule so I'm able to be there for them, even when things happen unexpectedly.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a business owner, your work is never really "done." There's always something you can do to help your business thrive. So, you have to learn to set limitations, and that's not always easy to do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Love what you do to the point that you would probably do it even if money were no longer important.
- Do the same or similar job for someone else first. It's important to see how they run their business. Take note of any mistakes you make, and try not to make them again.
- Hire a business coach or have an accountability group where you can talk openly and honestly and get ideas on how to overcome your current business hurdle.
