What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business and mentor coach. My clients are coaches, consultants, and service providers getting started in the business.

Tell us about yourself

I first started my coaching business 14 years ago. I was in a corporate job working an average of 60 hours a week and never saw my kids, and my health was starting to tank. My motivation is my family and creating the freedom to be able to travel.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The day I reached six figures was especially memorable as I had been struggling to reach it for the first couple of years. What made it so memorable was that it meant I had systems in place to be able to help more people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Mindset! If we are not careful and don't take the time to cultivate a success mindset, we can fail before we even get started!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a growth mindset! It will carry you through the self-doubt and setbacks that inevitably come up with starting a business. Read Mindset by Carol Dweck to explore it further.
  2. Know who you want to serve inside and out and create a Client Avatar. Do market research to find out what their problems are and what goals and aspirations they are looking to reach. If you know this, then creating services/products and the marketing around them is almost done for you.
  3. Hire a mentor or coach to help you navigate the whole process. It will save you years of trial and error and get you set up for success quickly!
