Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skin care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Antonia Alvaro, Founder of Sublime Oils, located in Palma, Mallorca, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sublime Oils Phyto cosmetics is a 100% natural organic cosmetics brand in which we are committed to the effectiveness of our formulas and sustainability integrated into all our processes, from the elimination of secondary packaging to ethical purchasing and social impact.

Our clients are mostly very demanding women in the care of their skin and with an environmental and social awareness developed and consistent with their lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a lover of cosmetics since I have always loved nature, plants, and flowers and studied their chemical composition (I studied Engineering specializing in Chemistry), find out all their properties, and I have done it for more than 20 years. There was a time when I started studying vegetable oils from Sub-Saharan Africa and decided to start a natural cosmetics company in which to be consistent with my own environmental and social values and demonstrate that it is possible to integrate social impact and profitability with product excellence.

I am motivated by all the people who thank us every day for creating our products, follow us and drive us to continue growing. We are lucky to be a very beautiful community in that we share the same vision of life. It also motivates me a lot to see how this social benefit becomes a reality and how we are shaping with my team something that has life by itself, always following our scale of values.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, the most important thing is to be able to contribute to creating jobs and, on the other hand, to disseminate something that is essential for us and that is part of our DNA, care for nature, respect for the environment, and social conscience. A specific milestone that is very important is to have our own laboratory in just two years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing, first of all, for me has been the process of getting here from scratch, building the project, and making it work. On a day-to-day basis, probably the feeling of not being able to lower your guard and having to always be connected at all times, which sometimes makes you have a lifestyle too stressful that, of course, is not the one we disclose in Sublime Oils.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. First of all, find something that really motivates you because in difficult moments, which are many, initially, you have to be moved by passion for what you do.
  2. Secondly, be persistent and work resilience. For me, it has been the greatest process of personal transformation I have lived, and perhaps in this transformation, you have to break with many limiting beliefs, such as a kind of personal rebirth, which is sometimes painful.
  3. Third, trust that this resilience will pay off, but set deadlines and plan your goals.
