Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Rabanillo, founder of Styleworthy, located in Etobicoke, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

With the lack of authenticity and 'realness' within these events and throughout social media, individuals' mental states are put at risk with self-doubt, body image, and confidence issues. I wanted to address the lack of diversity represented in the female empowerment and small business community by starting a platform where these issues are humanized. "I want to open a safe space for individuals to seek encouragement and direction by creating a well-being and workshop studio; I will be able to reach individuals and youth in Mississauga through curated programming, customized small business support, and well-being services where I encourage the community to be the unedited version of themselves." Our well-being services led by professionals will be an extension of the mind, body, and soul experience with the addition of products that individuals can purchase in the studio shop that help encourage one's self-love and care journey.

Tell us about yourself

With over 20 years of experience in marketing and event production, my intention is to encourage others to evolve by being their true authentic self. Evolving my skills, I launched Styleworthy studio six years ago. I combined my passion for business and love for building community to create programming focused on encouraging individuals and youth through well-being, art, and mindfulness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In choosing a holistic approach to mentoring others, I aim to encourage self-growth and success through empowerment. I firmly believe that my true measure of success is through engaging experience, growing in the community, and collaborations that ultimately inspire others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a target for those who don't want to see you succeed.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create your business plan authentically. Your vision, Your Energy, and Your Intention. It will resonate and create the business you want for yourself and the legacy to empower others with your service or products.
  2. Choose a Charity/Non-Profit of Choice. By aligning with a community-based non-profit organization, it will help keep you accountable to your community, which ultimately creates your client base.
  3. Mentor: We all come from somewhere; by creating a safe space for youth and those who want to learn, you are helping foster curiosity and build the future, and it's a reminder that there is always room to grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I'm working on creating programming with Angela Chao, program manager of the Styleworthy Studio, on ensuring we include art-based programming for adults & youth. We have kids camps for the summer lined up, including experienced artists from the Mississauga arts community to empower others with the skills they have learned to incorporate art and mindfulness into their lifestyle.
