Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Swapna Patel, founder of Style Remixx, LLC, located in Chaska, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Style Remixx, where we serve women who want to use their wardrobe to look & feel fabulous and confident at any size, any age, and any size. My clients are mostly success-driven women ranging from physicians and realtors to photographers and coaches who are craving a personal style upgrade or simply are overwhelmed by their crowded closets, tired of last-minute panic shopping, and avoid the mall like the plague.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a former New York City fashion designer with decades of experience in design, product development & merchandising. I left my corporate job to stay home with my children, but I always felt like something was missing. I started selling jewelry & accessories as a side gig, and in that time, most of my clients would ask me, "Can you come to my closet and help me make outfits?" or "What shall I wear to my job interview?". This is how Style Remixx was born!

The transformations I create for my clients and seeing them glow with confidence are what motivates me each day. I love the success stories of my clients. Whether they are unlocking new levels in their career or getting dream opportunities due to their newfound confidence, it brings me immense joy!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is creating a schedule that works for my family and me. I love picking up my kids from school every day. Having my own business has allowed me to do exactly that. I'm proud that through my in-person and online programs, I've impacted women all over the world without sacrificing what matters most to me, that's my family.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being your own boss is wearing many different hats and juggling many different aspects of being in business. In the early years, you can be a marketing expert, website designer, customer service rep, and bookkeeper. This is all in addition to doing your actual business! It can be challenging to do it all without feeling frustrated or burning out. Recognize where you can get some help and what things are best done by you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

For budding entrepreneurs, my three biggest pointers would be:

  1. Stay the course. Overnight success takes 5-10 years. Many people quit just as they are about to really ramp up their success. And, of course, have a very clear idea of what success means to you.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for help, whether it's having childcare, outsourcing your graphic design work to a pro, or even hiring a VA for a few hours each week. If you focus on what you do best, you'll be able to scale and grow faster.
  3. Invest in yourself! Whether it is a monthly massage, a business coach, or a mastermind, you have to fill your own cup first. It will reflect in all areas of your life and business if you get yourself the support you need.
