Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Xhico Garcia, Founder of Studio Xhico, located in Oakdale, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a designer specializing in branding and surface pattern design. My talents generate income via multiple revenue streams and enable me to give back to future entrepreneurs. I've built a career by designing logos and visuals for small businesses and entertainment companies. My licensed artwork and patterns appear on products worldwide. With over 30 years of experience as a designer, I work to educate creative entrepreneurs on design and brand building through online courses, a creative membership, and design retreats abroad. I give back to the communities I visit by providing workshops and support with design services to local entrepreneurs.

Tell us about yourself

I designed my first logo for a client in my teens, and I've been doing it ever since. Each project holds its problems to solve, and approaching projects with solution-based systems is one of my favorite design aspects. Looking at the big picture and obsessing over the details is how I build a vision for brands, packaging, and marketing. Helping others create the visuals and vibes for success keeps me going daily.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Sometimes we don't realize how much we've accomplished. I try to take time and reflect on even the little things I achieve because each of those small achievements leads to the success of a larger goal. Always learning and moving the goalpost forward keeps me wanting to accomplish more and appreciate everything contributing to my success.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As an entrepreneur running your own business, sometimes you can get stretched thin, and you need to know your limitations and set healthy boundaries for yourself. Recharging and keeping your energy up is essential in balancing business with life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself. No one else will be a bigger believer than you.
  2. Invest in yourself - education, workshops, tools, equipment - that you need to do your business correctly and efficiently.
  3. Know your limitations, do the work that makes you happy, and stay in the world where you excel. Hire out the other work that is outside of your zone.
