Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in sports media but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rob Rains, Editor-in-Chief of STLSportsPage.com, located in Saint Louis, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We run a website, STLSportsPage.com, covering the St. Louis Cardinals. Our audience is Cardinals fans and fans of baseball.

Tell us about yourself

I have been writing about baseball for more than 40 years, mostly about the Cardinals. I knew in high school that this was what I wanted to do, and I went to college, the University of Kansas, to pursue a degree in journalism.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. As a business owner, I just want to be able to do what I love to do on a daily basis.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Realizing that I have to find sponsors and advertisers to support the website since the content is free to readers.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something that you enjoy doing and try to make that your business.
  2. Be honest. Don't try to get ahead by lying to people or doing something you shouldn't do.
  3. Work hard.
