What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Career Coach for designers. Career Coach for Designers was created for Designers by Designers to help Designers level up.
We meet designers where they are today and then assist them in getting to where they want to be tomorrow. Our approach is rooted in industry-leading design principles and has proven to help designers get the career satisfaction they deserve.
Our customers are designers or people who aspire to be designers at any level and who want to tell their stories with confidence in order to achieve their individual career aspirations.
Tell us about yourself
I, Steven Steiner, created Career Coach for Designers to help designers reach their individual career goals. My professional experience spans 15+ years as an instructor and coach, which also includes 10+ years as an award-winning designer on both in-house and agency teams at local and international companies, communities, and organizations of all sizes.
As I climbed the corporate ladder to a director role, I realized that I am a designer by trade and a coach at heart. When I looked at what I wanted next, it was clear I had the chance to deliver a unique advance to help designers achieve their individual career aspirations because most people who offer career services to designers lack direct industry experience of what it takes to be a designer.
Now I am motivated each day to do what I do by the constant results that I help designers achieve. Their constant growth and personal fulfillment have been and continue to be far more rewarding to me than any design awards I have received.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been the ability to create value that designers believe in enough to invest in themselves by paying me to help them achieve their individual career aspirations.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes along with being a business owner for me is that I am 100% in control of the decisions and tasks that need to be done to run the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
These are my top 3 tips for anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today:
- Be patient with yourself and ask for help when needed.
- Lean into what feels right for you at the moment.
- Pay attention to what your customers want, then adjust accordingly.
