Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steven Robinson, Founder of Steven Robinson BEM, located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an inspirational/motivational speaker. I speak internationally and worldwide, sharing my message that anything is possible. My customers are from all walks of life. I know businesses, and I speak at conferences, business events, schools, colleges, universities, and anywhere that needs my services.

Tell us about yourself.

I became a motivational speaker after receiving a lot of media exposure after making my own prosthetic arm to take flight training and become a private pilot. This and other incredible accomplishments led me into the world of motivational speaking.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have many accomplishments that I am proud of. Graduating from university at 40 with a first-class honors degree in computer science, and a revolutionary product I had created turned into the monitor that later became a £1 million product—becoming a residential landlord after investing my money into property—becoming a private pilot in 2015 after designing and inventing my prosthetic arm.

Becoming an international inspirational/motivational speaker is one of my most significant accomplishments and the one that I am proud of. The fact I can share my unique outlook on life with others and help them overcome their Phantom barriers is more rewarding than I ever thought I would be.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding time to pursue the many new inventions and business interests I would like to follow. In essence, I need more time but so does everyone.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Opportunities are everywhere. What will happen if you don’t take them? So take every opportunity that comes your way and enjoy the journey and the benefits of the opportunity.
  2. Failure doesn’t exist, just different degrees of success.
  3. If it’s been done by somebody else, if I’ve been made by somebody else, then you can do it, and you can make it.
