What's your business, and who are your customers?

Motere Consulting is a performance enhancement consulting firm providing evidenced-based management assessment and management development services. Management teams, producers, and professionals make up the majority of our client base. Clients average 115% improvement in financial performance on average with a zero failure rate.

Tell us about yourself

I began my career as a college football coach, where human performance, leadership, and teamwork are the hallmarks of success. I then moved into higher education, where I developed a psychological test that measures a previously undetected trait that is proven to be responsible for value creation called The Prosperity Trait®. My programs craft experiences for clients that enable them to change behaviors and their mindsets. I wake up every day excited to help people change through experiences they never had previously. They come from any industry, any country. The need to change and experience excellence is inherent in all of us.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Showing that people are the product. By producing consistent results through evidence-based behavioral change, by-products include higher productivity, greater creativity, stronger cohesion, increased retention, and significant ROI on other human capital initiatives. As a result, people seek change rather than avoid, evade and delay it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Convincing change-resistant business owners and operators that revenue can be increased without moving a chair and without investing in new technology. Changing the behavior of management teams and producers does more than organizational initiatives and new technology combined.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't do it if you are unable to distinguish yourself. Your product/service is part of who you are in the eyes of prospects and clients.
  2. Don't do it if you are unable to deliver consistent results by solving specific problems. Clients don't care as much as you do about your process. They mostly care about results.
  3. Don't do it if your financial success outweighs the personal satisfaction of helping others achieve their goals. Clients see through selfish people.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

As humans, we naturally seek experiences to initiate change. The human condition is to change where we pursue experiences through individual expression, learning, group projects, competition, and just about anything else humans do. The only way we change is through experiences. Contrary to conventional wisdom and pedestrian beliefs, our genuine nature is to change.

People are deeply unfulfilled in this divided world, which encourages and rewards the pursuit of money, power, greatness, and happiness as the apex of existence. As we improve our social status by achieving financial and professional goals or even encountering periods of happiness, we are still intensely unsatisfied, continually looking to connect with others more deeply and better understand our imperfect selves. By treating people as ends unto themselves — rather than a means to an end — a cycle of growth emerges by strengthening one's Prosperity Trait adding extraordinary value to experiences where change becomes the norm rather than an outlier.
