What's your business, and who are your customers?
Miscommunication is expensive! It leads to missed opportunities both professionally and personally. As a communication and media training coach, I empower clients to communicate with confidence and connect with anyone in-person, on-air, and online. My clients are experts in their fields, industry leaders, and organizations who want to take control of their messaging and branding, effectively communicate their purpose to an audience, and stand out and shine in a noisy, 24/7 messaging world.
Tell us about yourself
My passion is authentic and connective communication. Communication is the cornerstone of every interaction we have. Communication can either connect or repel. It can either be a gateway or a barrier to opportunities. I am a 3-time Emmy Award-winning TV news journalist. After 19 years of being in front of the camera and coaching those I interviewed on how to communicate in a compelling, concise, and conversational way, I decided NOW is the time to work directly with clients on how to do just that! What motivates me every day is to make a positive difference, support others in reaching their full potential, and ENJOY what I do! Life is precious. Why not make the most of it?!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is starting my own business! So many people dream about becoming business owners but never make it a reality because they let fear and self-doubt prevent them from trying. I am someone who doesn't want to live with regret. I would rather take a risk than play it safe and regret not trying. You have to be smart about taking that risk, but why can't you succeed?! You absolutely can!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is also one of the most rewarding things about being a business owner: it's all on you! It's incredibly empowering and terrifying to have it all on your shoulders. For you to succeed, there's no phoning it in or not really trying. Being a business owner is a tremendous responsibility AND opportunity. It's not for the faint of heart, but nothing worthwhile is easy, which is why it is SO critical to have a strong support system!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top 3 tips for anyone interested in starting/growing a business are:
- Cultivate a strong support system of mentors, coaches, and advisors.
- Continue to talk about and outline your business plan and vision- it likely will evolve and change over time, which is more than okay. It's how your business evolves and improves!
- Have a "why I'm doing this" reason. Self-doubt and anxiety are part of being a business owner (no matter how successful you are!), but if you truly believe in your vision and purpose, keep reminding yourself WHY you're doing this in the first place! When you have that fundamental reason to look back on, it will help propel you further and keep you going.
