Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stef Fournier, a Personal Branding Coach & Photographer based in Langley, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a personal branding coach and photographer! I believe that all entrepreneurs get into business because they have a special skill or talent (magic) that they want to share with the world. Many people are afraid to show up online to share their skills, but since people like to buy from people they know, like, and trust, they need to get themselves out there.

I work with people to build unique personal brands that help them connect to their ideal clients. My clients are typically solopreneurs or small teams who depend on online marketing to thrive in their industry. My clients already know what they are good at. They just need help showing it.

Tell us about yourself

I started building websites when I was 12 years old, so I've been in the marketing and online space for a LOOONG time even though I'm in my mid-thirties! I then pursued it as a career while getting my University Education in Communications. While working in the online space, I found a passion for photography and decided to do that as my side gig.

Discovering that being an entrepreneur was ALSO my passion, I left design to become a full-time photographer. During this time, I also followed a path of self-improvement. I took courses in energy work, natural health, became a Master NLP Coach and Hypnotherapist. Once the pandemic hit, a big chunk of my photography wasn't possible, so I leaned into my marketing, business, and hypnotherapy knowledge to bring together my business today. I'm so glad I did because I'm super passionate about building personal brands and really found my zone of genius.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bringing a vast amount of different skills together to seamlessly provide a cohesive service in personal branding that allows clients to go deeper than the surface stuff and open them up to very cool opportunities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Knowing when to say no and not getting too caught up in all the things you feel you "should" do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. BUILD A PERSONAL BRAND!!! Because now more than ever people buy from people and there's no escaping that.
  2. Do the mindset work. You will never make any money unless you believe you can.
  3. Always be kind, but make sure the person you are most kind to is yourself.
