Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Stanley, founder of Stanley Pop, located in Studio City, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Stanley Pop was created to bring popular nail art trends to the nail wrap space. Our vision was to give our customers an easy and affordable way to access these trends at home.

Our customers are creative trendsetters who enjoy expressing themselves through their clothing and accessories. They love having an amazing manicure but want to be able to get super fun and polished look without having to visit the nail salon.

Tell us about yourself

I've never loved visiting the nail salon, but I do love having a great-looking manicure. In 2019, I became a mom and got hooked on the ease of using nail polish wraps. I could apply them while still being active with my daughter. I loved the concept but was having a hard time finding designs I liked. I wanted a manicure that was fun and modern; thus, the idea for STANLEY POP was born.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Positive customer reviews and Instagram shares. I built a product that I love, but seeing other people love it too is so rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I fund the business, so in order to keep costs low, I do most everything myself. I do everything from product design concepts photography to picking and packing the orders. It's a balancing act of prioritizing tasks that need to be done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You can do it! Half the battle is quieting self-doubt and just going for it.
  2. Start small. I'm a big fan of the crawl, walk, run method. Do one thing really well and keep building from there.
  3. Work with other business owners. If you start something by yourself, you won't have co-workers, so find other entrepreneurs and help each other by being sounding boards for new ideas, talking about what is working and what is not working.
