Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zane Stackhouse, Owner of StackHats, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Stackhats! Which at the moment is a start-up luxury brand of men's clothes and accessories. It's a lifestyle brand. My customers and potential customers are males with a demographic age range of 10 to 70. I also have had a few women that have purchased or enquired about Stackhats. Brand recognition is my main focus as of today.

Tell us about yourself

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. I moved to New York City in the fall of 1997 to pursue Acting. I am an avid sports fan, and I saw a need in the market for baseball caps and sportswear with a different flair. My brand is something that I have put blood and sweat tears into. It's been a long battle, albeit a fun battle, to take ideas from my imagination and put them on paper, to actually have a tangible product. It's a passion that I go to sleep with and wake up with on my mind every single day. I'm motivated to leave a legacy for my family. And I am 100% sure my brand will have a huge impact on the sports fashion industry.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly just getting started. I know tons of people who have ideas, great ideas, but can't seem to get going. And also actually can see my logo/brand being worn around the country. It's a great feeling to have strangers really love what you have created.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's been finding the finance to continue building my brand. I have everything in place. In order to start and maintain any business, it takes money. So getting funds to put into my brand/business has been the toughest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started. PERIOD.
  2. Do your research. Find out what people like. What they spend their money on and where they spend it. Online, word of mouth, or brick and mortar.
  3. Never give up!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Thank you guys for allowing me to express myself. And hopefully, I've motivated someone to start and reach their goals.
