What's your business, and who are your customers?

Staci Spencer-Hoyt, the founder of Staci Spencer-Hoyt LLC, now coaches startups to begin on the right foot and provide exceptional service to their clients. Staci Spencer-Hoyt was business consulting on the side for over 15 years, helping businesses increase their social media presence, reach, and website presence. She now provides affordable startup coaching to help entrepreneurs get off on the right foot and start with a good foundation of knowledge.

Tell us about yourself

I originally started business consulting on the side around 15 years ago. After Covid hit, I decided to make it full-time and jumped right in. During my time consulting, I noticed that there had been a lack of mentorship in the virtual community, but now I am expanding to coach new virtual assistants and managers about how to start and scale their businesses. I truly believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur and be successful. I want to help them realize their true potential and live their best life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

This may seem cliche, but growing into the person that I want to be. I have suffered from imposter syndrome and anxiety, along with ADHD. Along the way, I have discovered my true passion (helping others discover their true potential) and how to be the person I am destined to become AND, in turn, helping others discover who they are destined to become.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Confidence. Being a business owner can make you feel inferior and less than others every single day. All the questions we ask ourselves -Do I know what I am doing? Maybe I'm not as smart as I thought I was. I am not helping anyone! I know I struggle with confidence, sometimes more than others, but I have learned through mindset work how to counteract these feelings and show more confidence than ever.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a mentor or possibly someone who is in the same business. This will allow you to learn from someone who has been there, have your questions answered, and make connections for the long haul.
  2. Be decisive. The more you overanalyze or overthink, the less likely you are to make a decision. Business owners are the end-all in every aspect of the business, so make the decision and move on.
  3. Figure out who your ideal client is and speak in their voice (answer questions you know they will ask). This will make it much easier to market your services/products because you are speaking to the people you most want to reach.
