What's your business, and who are your customers?

StableFeed manufactures and sells premium superfood supplements and sainfoin forage products to the North American equestrian community.

Tell us about yourself

I started by making a product for my own horse in an attempt to avoid using medications to support her health. The results were so inspiring that I ended up creating an entire line of superfood supplements to address many common equine health issues.

There are no species that humans owe more to than equids, so providing them with superfood supplements and high-quality forages that improve their health is extremely rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is continuing to grow during COVID. I think this speaks to the quality and efficacy of our products.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I didn't intend to start a business, so I had to learn everything as we went, like building a plane while we were flying it. That has brought challenges every step of the way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear about what it is you want to do.
  2. Be clear about who your market is.
  3. Invest in great branding so you will be noticed in a crowded marketplace.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. I am blessed to have a supportive family and staff who believe in what we are doing. I could not have accomplished what I have without these incredible individuals. It's challenging but fun when things are going right and the sales are rolling in, but things don't always go right, so having a team of like-minded individuals who can help carry the load is mission-critical.
