Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Lou Anderson, Founder of Spirit & Serve, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Spirit & Serve. Those individuals are seeking Clarity, Forgiveness, Healing, and a Joy-filled Life.

Tell us about yourself

I knew for years - 20 +, my good 'Work' was stirring within my Soul. Only a 2-year period of absolute Surrender led me down the Path of truly understanding our human essence and the Soul, which lies deeply and lovingly within us all. I invoked the Healer within me as I rose above the dark night(s) of my Spirit. My motivation to be the Presence and Conduit for many others in their Journey to Wellness was my own experiences of addressing my greatest Fears, Beliefs, and Programs that had held me 'down' for half of a lifetime. Surrendering to my greatest, personal Truth and essence of my being was the catapult to truly help others...Heal themselves. Spirit & Serve was born with the awakening, Healing, and most importantly - Loving of myself by surrendering to a greater power, greater wisdom, and a greater knowing of our Divine purpose. I Pray with Gratitude and Humility each day - and Spirit guides me on my Way. I'm motivated by the Light of Creator, Spirit, and God to be a compassionate Presence through Teaching and Listening and gently Helping those who want to Heal from past wounds and traumas, for all who seek their freedom to fully experience this human life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are those students, and clients who have taken the high road, have done their personal Good Work, and in turn - have become Teachers and Healers. The greatest Joy I experience in my work is to see the growth of clients, the growth of their hearts, and their wisdom with each passing day. The sweetest accomplishments are always experiencing my client's catapult forward with the divine, joyous life they are worthy of and so deserve.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance. Owning your own business takes savvy and drive, and willingness to bend in many different directions when the call is there to do so. Understanding the ultimate decision maker must always be you can place much pressure on your life as a whole. Learning to balance and step back when your body and mind scream for a break is vital. It can be difficult to find that delicate balance when the responsibility lies solely within your own hands. That's where the Trust comes into play - and the knowledge I've done the best I can for that day, that moment.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Reach deep into your Soul and ask yourself: "Will this venture bring me Joy?" "Am I willing to do what it takes to dive in head-first?" "Where do I want to be business-wise within one year, three years, five years, ten years?" In other words, be your own personal version of Due Diligence. Tap within and ask the difficult questions.
  2. Create a Strategic Plan - 5 years and ten years - Strategize out immediate and long-term goals.
  3. S.W.O.T. Analysis: Do It! Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats. A Quadrant Chart - What are the Strength points of your Business idea? What are the Weaknesses? Where lies Opportunity? And what could/can/would/will possibly Threaten your Business. Then Analyze - and ask, Am I Truly Ready? Is the Risk Worth the Reward? Build upon your Answers to these questions - with Confidence, Faith, Drive, Motivation, and most importantly - Positive Affirmations that I Am Succeeding! Daily "I Am" Statements to Self - Affirmations of your Success. See it as already Done!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The freedom attained by owning your own business is incredible! Work hard, plan your downtime for the balance of it all, always keep your Vision clear, work towards individual Goals, accept Advice (even if you disagree, it may be a lifesaver down the road!), and prepare for failure - more than a few, be Grateful for everything, share the Love and the Abundance, accept Help when needed, understand this moment is all we have - Enjoy, Create, Share, Serve! And if the time comes to step back or step away - know you've given it your very best, as you have and you did. Finally, take impeccable care of Yourself from the very beginning - be easy with your Words to Yourself and your Thoughts. Flip every negative word or thought to Self around to a positive. We create our own Reality - Create that which you Love, which begins with you. Your business will be a direct reflection of your Thoughts - You will be Amazing!
