Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catalina Navarro, founder of Spiral Melt, located in Aurora, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Spiral Melt Candles is the Most Unique Spiral Candle. It's a natural beeswax container and, at the same time, a spiral candle. Instead of throwing away your packaging, just burn it as a spiral candle. They are eco-friendly, and the bottom base is made of recyclable aluminum. Enjoy their twirling spiral candle, the natural scent, and the properties of 100% beeswax. Two candles in one: the spiral candle burns inwards, forming a second candle contained in the bottom aluminum cap.

Any individual is looking for unique eco-friendly gifts or special gifts for candle lovers. These are handmade in Canada from 100% beeswax. Like honey, beeswax is all. Natural and has antibacterial properties helping keep things clean and reducing risks of contamination. Unlike candles made from other wax, beeswax candles burn brighter and cleaner as they emit negative ions that are known to help purify the air. Beeswax also smells great when burned without any added chemicals or scents, as it's naturally aromatic from the honey and flower nectar that's found in the honeycomb.

Tell us about yourself

As an Industrial Designer, I was keen to find a packaging solution that could completely disappear. Beeswax was sustainable and environmentally friendly, so the testing started! The idea of buying something in packaging that you could melt or burn away was the best inspiration for this project.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Keeping eco-friendly and sustainable production is our biggest accomplishment. From We only use recycled or natural products throughout our entire process. Our shipping/packaging is only made with recyclable kraft paper, recycled newspaper, or cardboard boxes. Our minimum labels are made of 100% recycled paper, our bottom bases are 100% aluminum, our wick is made of cotton and paper, and we only use 100% beeswax. We are no longer using any type of plastic to pack.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing production through ups and downs or a pandemic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be as organized as you can!
  2. Document every process!
  3. Repeat, and don't give up!
