What's your business, and who are your customers?

I coach autistic young adults through the transitions to college, career, and adulthood. My clients are autistic young adults in upper high school (junior, senior) and above. I also work with their parents as needed.

Tell us about yourself

I decided I wanted to help autistic young adults after the great difficulties my family had found support for our academically talented autistic college student. Her transition to college was not smooth, and we could not find appropriate support for her. It is incredibly rewarding to meet with parents whose young adults are experiencing the same challenges my daughter faced and be able to assure them that I can help. And there is nothing better than hopping on a Zoom call with a client who has a big smile on their face because they are doing well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am now in year three of my coaching practice. I have successfully doubled my gross income each year. This year I am on track to earn five times what I made in year one. I'm very proud of that!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Have all the tools in place so that when you grow, you are ready.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Value your time and services appropriately.
  2. Hire people to help you with those things that are harder for you.
  3. Make sure to thank anyone who refers clients to you.
