Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathy Le, Founder of Spark Your Speaking, located in the USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Spark Your Speaking is an academy that helps people who fear public speaking find their confidence and master the skill. Our unique programs aren’t just for those who want to overcome their fears; it’s for the entrepreneur who desires to elevate their public presence and reach more customers and scale their business, or the keynote speaker who has goals to present on stage and share their message, or the individual who wants to crush their presentation to potential clients and business partners.

Tell us about yourself

I have more than a decade of experience as a TV anchor and reporter and have had the privilege of hosting more than 100 events during the span of my career, with my largest audience of 10 thousand. I know the power of mastering public speaking and how it can help anyone achieve their career and personal goals. This has motivated me to help others tap into and unlock their potential with their ideas and their voices. In many cases, the fear of public speaking holds many people back from achieving their goals. My mission through the company is to help people realize that anyone can master this skill and bring more fulfillment into their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment through SYS is helping my students crush their dreams by mastering the art of public speaking. I truly find so much joy in being a part of that journey, especially for students who never would’ve imagined themselves being able to public speak and communicate confidently. Students who have climbed the corporate ladder, online content creators, coaches, and CEOs. All who could have never achieved this without elevating their public speaking and communication skills.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner isn’t for the faint of heart. Unlike working for someone else for 8 hours a day, a business owner works 24/7 and basically 365 days out of the year. And there isn’t a guarantee for success. One month you might meet or exceed your financial goals, and other months you might not. It takes a lot of guts and heart to keep going and not give up.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your why or your motivation for creating your business. Your why is going to keep you motivated when things get tough.
  2. Good marketing is integral to a successful business. You can have the best product or service to offer, but if you can’t market them, it’s going to be very difficult to find success.
  3. Take risks and be flexible. Try the new approach, and think outside the box even if you don’t know the outcome. Pivot if it doesn’t work. Successful business owners aren’t rigid in their way of doing things or thinking.
