Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Deleon, Founder of Soulfull Minds, located in Pearland, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My private practice is different than a standard therapy setting. I strive to empower my clients mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I believe that overall health stems from the food we eat, how often we move our bodies, how we treat ourselves, and how we allow ourselves to feel our emotions and release them. Conventional therapy focuses on a diagnosis or a box to place an individual, rather than the unique individual themselves. Everyone has their own story, unique situations, and traumas but rarely does anyone focus on their overall lifestyles. Understanding that the quality of food we eat, how often we exercise, and our relationship with ourselves play a vital role in our health can help improve our mental health and overall wellbeing.

My clients tend to be individuals looking for an alternative way to heal holistically, rather than choosing pharmaceuticals first but having them as a last resort. I see my clients virtually one-on-one who want to positively impact their mental and overall health. My approach helps clients heal mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Tell us about yourself

I started my healing journey in 2011 when I hit rock bottom in depression. I had suffered from high functioning anxiety and suicidal thoughts for a few months when I knew I had to make changes. Too ashamed to ask for help, I dove headfirst into self-help books, exercised daily, practiced yoga three times a week, and started journaling to identify and express my emotions when I noticed a change in my mental health. I felt better. The scary thoughts had stopped. I knew I wanted to help others overcome life stressors and situations that made them feel less than, unloved, or hopeless.

Fast forward to now, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified personal trainer, and enrolled in a doctoral program in Mind-Body Medicine with a specialization in Integrative and Functional Nutrition at Saybrook University. I realized that I could help guide others out of dark places as I did for myself by sharing my story and empowering them to heal themselves. My mission is to help my clients work through their traumas, build their self-worth, incorporate healthy foods into their diet, encourage daily movement, and empower them to be their authentic self that lies under the hurt they encountered within their lives. Seeing my clients change and heal right before my eyes motivates me each day to keep going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is continuing to balance helping others heal, being a mother of two, running a business, continuing my education, spending time with my husband, and having time for myself. It can be overwhelming at times, but I am so grateful I have such a great support system surrounding me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most challenging task is staying consistent with social media content. Social media is now vital for small businesses to function and bring in new clients. However, setting aside specific days and times has helped me not get overwhelmed and am consistent with posting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and go for it!
  2. You are the only thing standing in your way!
  3. Surround yourself with people who believe in you!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Let's normalize needing help from others, and talking about our emotions is a huge factor in our health!
