What's your business, and who are your customers?
SoulCraft is Canada's FIRST creative wellness crafting experience. Available as a monthly or quarterly subscription, my customers enjoy receiving my uniquely designed and handmade DIY boxes, which not only contain an art or craft project but some thoughtful self-care extras, including a gift from another small artisan business.
Tell us about yourself
Originally from England, I now reside in rural Ontario in a little house in the woods. An artist and maker for most of my life, I created SoulCraft following a bout of depression and severe anxiety where I used crafting to help alleviate my symptoms by entering into a 'flow state' (Csikszentmihalyi & Nakamura), which I found greatly helped me relax and find clarity. I now devote my time to helping other people by running creative wellness classes, teaching crafts as well as designing and making my DIY boxes.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every time I hear from a customer that my product is valued and appreciated!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are highs, and there are lows. Making sure to be intentionally thankful for the wins and using the losses as an opportunity to learn and grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find the thing you're passionate about, and do it! You are unique, and your ideas are awesome, so don't compare yourself or your business idea to anyone else, stay focused on yourself! Take time out, recharge, and take care of yourself!
