Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ambreen Ihsanullah, Founder of Soul to Soul Counselling, located in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a counselling practice/business. I help people ready to reclaim their true essence and live their life with clarity, confidence, and a deep connection with themselves, the people, and the world around them. My ideal clients range from 18 to 79 years old. They are people who are ready to dive deep into the source/core of their life issues, which have kept them stuck and in pain for too long, and free themselves once and for all to live the happiness and love they long for in life. My individualized, integrated, soul-based counselling approach and method gets people the results they desire!

Tell us about yourself

As a passionate people person, it is my life purpose and privilege to help people reclaim their deep selves so they can lead, love, and live from their authentic core. My specialty is in helping heal relationship conflicts between couples and family members, which are often at the heart of emotional pain, anxiety, depression, stress, and overwhelm. Life happens to all of us and presents regular challenges. Evolving and growing through life’s trials often requires the support of a trusted professional with an open heart and mind who is able to get to the source of the issue and knows how to help resolve it once and for all.

Healing myself after divorce 30 years ago started me on my spiritual path and journey of self-discovery, self-love, and self-acceptance. Teaching high school for 30 years and connecting deeply with my students to support their healthy growth was a joy and privilege. I can think of nothing more meaningful work than supporting people in their life journey toward then fulfillment. I love what I do, and I love my clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Developing a method of counselling beyond traditional talk therapy, which is soul-deep and allows people I work with to come home to themselves, their heart and soul, to live their most fulfilling lives no matter what they may have suffered. There is not only hope to experience real love and happiness in life; there is a way!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting the word out about what I do and what I offer people so that I have a regular intake of clients and I can help the greatest number of people possible.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Test yourself, your own intuition, and your unique “ brand,” even though the pressure is great out there to try all the social media, etc.
  2. Make yourself known using your natural strengths, i.e., writing, speaking, meeting people, running events, etc.
  3. Excellent service delivery. Satisfied clients refer to others, and that is the way I have built my business so far, knowing that I have served my clients well and they appreciate their experience so much that they would prefer me to family and friends.
