What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Sophie Dance, a group of children's dance studios. I have Sophie Dance 3rd, Sophie Dance West, and Level Up Dance Academy. Our customers are children ages 2-18!
Tell us about yourself
Sophie Dance is my childhood dream come true. Every day I am motivated by my students, who inspire me to be creative and innovative as my business grows and transforms year after year.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is connecting with the people who are on my staff. Finding a team that aligns with my visions, philosophies, and personal style has been a journey, and at this time, I am so blessed to employ 27 amazing dance teachers and administrators who truly are a reflection of my dream.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest aspect of being a business owner is having faith in yourself. It takes a lot of courage to own your own business, and you have to believe you have what it takes to keep it going and pivot when necessary.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you take time to do all the necessary jobs within your business. You need to do it all so that when the time to delegate comes, you understand what you are asking of other people.
- The policies of your business should be bendable but never breakable. If you are working with the general public, you need to leave room in your policies for human circumstances, but you must also never allow them to be fully broken.
- Have faith in your vision and trust your intuition.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I have been running a children's dance studio for 16 years. I am also blessed to have my own daughters among my clients. I treat each of my students just as I would my own children, and when I am on the dance floor, I see them all as my children. Embracing my clientele through love and never fear is what has led to the success of my business.
